Students at Risk: A context for positive change

Principals, Assistant Principals, School Psychologists, School Counsellors and School chaplains
Description:

If your work involves the wellbeing of young people, this invaluable one day
workshop is a must attend!

This is arguably the most vulnerable generation of students in our history and
their psychosocial health is well below that of their parents when they were
teenagers.

Around 75% of psychological issues commence before age 24. The early
identification of students at risk is associated with prompt treatment resulting in
a much better long term outcome.

This one day intensive workshop is devoted to techniques for assessing the
psychological well-being of young people.

The workshop involves two informative case studies and maximises group
discussion.

At the end of the workshop participants will be aware of the latest research on
students at risk and better able to:
• understand and recognise the most common psychological problems in
young people
• assess a young person using five contemporary and easy to use paradigms
• recognise the signs that a student is at risk and know how to develop a
management plan
• increase engagement and rapport with students

This seminar will assist school communities to establish rapport, assess risk and
determine what interventions are the most appropriate.
