Bringing the ‘Real’ World to the Literacy Classroom

Specific Audience - Secondary 7 – 10 Focus and VCAL Focus
Description:

Traditional English texts often don’t appeal to many students in the middle years and in the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). They are more likely to be interested in texts that have immediate application to their lives. In this one day practical workshop participants will look at a range of authentic texts, consider how these can be used in literacy classes and develop resources that take an applied learning approach bringing the real world to the English classroom to engage students. Workshop activities will also include games and fun activities designed to engage learners and develop core literacy skills. This workshop is suitable for English and Literacy teachers of VCAL and Years 7 to 10.
